Who is eligible for NCG funded treatment?
The NCG service at the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma is available to anybody in England and Scotland, aged 18 years or over, who meets the following criteria:
| Previous (Cognitive) Behaviour Therapy | To be eligible, the person must have completed two or more sets of cognitive or cognitive behavioural or behaviour therapy |
| Previous medication | To be eligible, the person must have had two or more trials of SRI antidepressant medication plus one of the following:
|
| Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (YBOCS) | A YBOCS score of 30 or more: indicating that the OCD or BDD is severe |
These criteria follow the guidelines for the treatment of OCD set down by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE). Please feel free to contact us should you wish to discuss these criteria or any aspect of the service.
Referring to the NCG service
CADAT welcomes referrals from Community Mental Health Teams in England and Scotland. Referral letters should include:
- details of the presenting problem
- details of any previous psychological treatment (including dates, duration, location, NHS vs. private, name of therapist etc if known)
- any current and previous medication (including duration of trial, dates, doses and compliance if known)
- YBOCS score (if known)
You may like to download and complete the attached NCG criteria form to send in with the referral letter. It is important that referrals include as much information as possible about the service user’s previous psychological and pharmacological treatment.
We accept referrals by post and fax. Please see below for contact details.
What are the waiting times?
Waiting times vary, however we aim to assess people referred to the NCG service within 4 weeks of receiving the referral.
After assessment, potential candidates for treatment under the NCG service are discussed at a meeting of all the participating NCG units. This meeting takes place once a month, which means that there may be a short delay between assessment and confirmation of treatment under the NCG service.
Once NCG eligibility is confirmed at the monthly meeting, treatment will begin within approximately 4 weeks, depending on therapist availability.
What does treatment at the Centre for Anxiety Disorders And Trauma (CADAT) involve?
CADAT is an outpatient CBT clinic; we have no facilities for treating people on an inpatient basis. Please see below for details on other units offering NCG treatment on an inpatient basis.
Treatment at CADAT is typically comprised of a minimum of 12 CBT sessions, each lasting one to two hours, once weekly. The sessions will include at least one home visit wherever possible, and will be followed by 3 follow-up sessions at longer than weekly intervals.
However, there is flexibility in this arrangement – people may be seen more intensively or at greater intervals and over a longer period of time if appropriate. In some instances we will carry out intensive treatments where all of the therapy sessions are completed over the course of 4–5 days.
