Referrals
National
We are able to accept referrals from across the UK if funding is secured. Almost all of the National referrals we see are people with OCD, BDD and Specific Phobias. Further detailed information about the National services we provide are available on our webpage of the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust National Website.
There is also an online referral system
IAPT
CADAT forms part of three local Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services, in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham. IAPT is a national initiative that aims to improve access to evidence based talking therapies in the NHS through an expansion of the psychological therapies workforce and services (see www.iapt.nhs.uk). These services offer treatment for psople whose main problem is depression or an anxiety disorder. The services are organised in a stepped care manner in which many patients are offered guided self-help and other 'low intensity' therapy approaches. These typically involve 4-6 telephone or face-to-face appointments with a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner. Those patients with severe difficulties, previous treatment failures, and those who choose not to engage with guided self-help and similar approaches can be 'stepped-up' to 'high intensity' therapies. This typically involves 8-12 sessions of face-to-face therapy. All of the treatment offered at CADAT is such 'high intensity' therapy.
Almost all of the patients CADAT assesses and treats from Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham are as part of these IAPT services. CADAT therapists also offer supervision to trainees and other therapists in these services. Due to these recent service developments the referral process to CADAT differs depending on which borough the patient and / or patient's GP are based in.
Lambeth
CADAT can no longer accept direct referrals for Lambeth patients. All referrals should be made to the central Lambeth Primary Care Psychological Therapies Service. The referral guidelines for GPs are available here <Lambeth referrals guidelines>. The referral form for GPs is available here <Lambeth GP referral form> and directions where to send it included. Patients need to opt in to the service by completing the following questionnaires and calling the numbers included on this opt-in form <Lambeth opt in leaflet>. Information about Crisis Services in Lambeth is provided here <Lambeth crisis services info>.
Southwark
CADAT can continue to accept direct referrals from GPs and other health professionals. The main problem for the patient should be one for the following: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorder, Social Phobia (Social Anxiety Disorder), Body Dysmorphic Disorder, and Specific Phobias (including Vomit Phobia). These referrals should be addressed to Margaret Dakin, Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma, 99 Denmark Hill, London, SE5 8AZ, Southwark patients will be seen as part of the Southwark Psychological Therapies Service (SPTS). To refer to SPTS health professionals should complete the following form <Southwark referral form>. This leaflet <Southwark self-referral info leaflet> gives information about the possibility of patients self-referring to SPTS. The SPTS self-referral form is here <Southwark self-referral form>. Self-referrals
IAPT services nationwide are now accepting self-referrals. This is also true for the three IAPT services that we form part of, Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham. If you are a resident of one of these boroughs then you can self-refer to your borough's IAPT service. You CANNOT self-refer directly to CADAT. If appropriate your referral may be allocated to a therapist in our clinic, as part of the IAPT service.
